Hollywood remembers "Medical Center" actor Chad Everett

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood remembered actor Chad Everett on Wednesday by laying flowers at his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one day after he died at home in Los Angeles of lung cancer. He was 75.

Everett was best known for his role as dashing young surgeon Joe Gannon on hospital drama "Medical Center," which ran on U.S. television from 1969 to 1976, and earned him two Golden Globe nominations.

The actor worked in numerous roles over a career that spanned some 50 years. He was acting as recently as this year in an episode of the TV series, "Castle."

His credits include guest-starring roles on 1960s shows such as "77 Sunset Strip" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." After "Medical Center" came roles on the TV mini-series "Centennial" and shows such as "Murder, She Wrote" and "Melrose Place."

Born Raymon Lee Cramton on June 11, 1936, in South Bend Indiana, Everett first performed in stage plays in high school and college. After graduating, he moved to Hollywood and became a contract player with Warner Bros.

Along with his television roles, Everett also worked in movies during his career.

His wife, actress Shelby Grant, died in 2011. He is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren.

Create Your Garden Oasis This Summer | Celebrated House

Posted by Keely on July 26th, 2012

With summer in full swing you?re sure to be spending time in the garden, relaxing or getting together with family and friends for a barbecue. If you feel inspired to do something extra special in your garden this year, you could consider a hot tub. For those of us who don?t have the space, or the money, for a heated swimming pool, cheap hot tubs from Argos could provide an ideal alternative.

It may not be something you have considered previously, but a spa can offer a range of benefits for all the family, from having fun with the kids to soothing aches and pains. Hot tubs have grown in popularity in the UK in recent years, thanks to prices becoming more and more reasonable and the range becoming more extensive. These days, there is a spa out there to suit any taste, budget and need.

You don?t necessarily have to have loads of space to accommodate one, either. Inflatable tubs might be one answer to space problems, as they can be moved around whenever you need to and can be deflated and stored when not in use. If you like the idea of a permanent tub, but don?t have much room, there are smaller, two seater models available that fit easily into a corner of the garden.

Before purchasing your spa, perhaps the first decision to be made is where you intend to put it. If you are choosing a permanent site, consider one or two points. It?s probably a good idea to keep the tub reasonably close to the house for ease of installation when it comes to the necessary plumbing and electrics, unless there are already water and power supplies elsewhere in the garden.

If you?re thinking of making use of the spa throughout the year, its proximity to the house will also become very important in colder weather, when you have to make your way to and from the tub wrapped only in your swimming costume and a towel! However, if you want to site the tub somewhere in the garden that doesn?t already have either shelter or the necessary utilities, factor in the additional installation costs and consider building a gazebo over it for extra protection when temperatures drop.

Whichever spa model you choose and wherever you decide to put it, you will be creating a haven in your garden that will give your home a touch of luxury and will have far reaching benefits for both your home and your family.

Excellent Places To Find Boats For Sale In Dallas

Many people who are looking for a good place to find boats for sale in Dallas have tried boating activities and have fallen in love with water activities so much that they are ready to purchase their own craft. Their experience to date may have been limited to renting boats at the marina or borrowing a friend's boat, and they may be wondering where to look to make a wise purchase. The good news is that finding boats for sale in Dallas is not the different than finding cars for sale.

One good place to start looking is your local dealership. Just like automobiles, dealerships often specialize in a particular brand of boat. If you know the brand you like, then choosing the dealership can be pretty straightforward. If not, it may be a good idea to visit several dealerships and get information from all of them. Just like purchasing an automobile, there is no such thing as too much research. For such a large investment, it's important to research for just as long as it takes to get comfortable with you decision.

Of course, you don't need to start with the dealerships if you have an internet connection handy. Each of the major manufacturers has a website with all the photos and specifications that you need. Another great place on the internet to research are consumer sites that don't have any direct relationships to the manufacturers, and can give an unbiased comparison between the different brands and models. These sites often have expert commentary as well as a place where customers can post their comments and give real-life experiences with each of the boats for sale in Dallas that you may be considering.

Just like auto sales have independent dealers, generally for used vehicles, boat dealerships can offer an excellent selection of used boats for sale in Dallas. The manufacturing dealerships will have these as well. Shop these dealerships in the same way as you would an auto dealer, getting references beforehand and doing your homework. Of course, private party sales are a raging business as well.

Perhaps one of the best checks to make when buying is to test drive. This option isn't available for all boat dealerships, but that's often the best way to find where you would like to shop.

Boats For Sale Dallas - Check out the various places to find boats for sale in Dallas and see which one suits your buying style and sports needs. With a little research and footwork, you will find a great place to find boats for sale in Dallas.

Allmendinger's issues giving Hornish another shot

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) ? To some extent, Sam Hornish Jr. is uncomfortable with the idea that he is benefiting from another driver's adversity. That won't stop him from jumping on another chance to race in the Sprint Cup Series.

Given Hornish's own struggles in NASCAR the past few seasons, the former IndyCar ace is thankful for any chance to redeem himself ? even if it took A.J. Allmendinger's failed drug test to give Hornish another shot.

"After going through what I went through in the last year, I don't wish anybody any ill will," Hornish said. "But we're not turning sponsors away, teams aren't turning sponsors away. You've got to be very thankful for what you have right now and the opportunities you've been given. However I get it, I'm going to try to make the most of it."

NASCAR suspended Allmendinger hours before the July 7 race at Daytona for failing a random drug test taken at the end of June. His second urine sample will be tested Tuesday, a critical moment that will likely determine Allmendinger's long-term future at Penske Racing.

Allmendinger has said he tested positive for a stimulant, but not revealed the exact substance. He said he would never knowingly take a banned substance...

With Allmendinger in limbo, Hornish has driven the past two Cup races in the No. 22 Cup car in addition to his full-time duties for Penske in the Nationwide Series. If Allmendinger ends up being cleared this week, he'd likely get his ride back.

If not, Hornish could get the chance to chance to race in the Cup Series the rest of the season.

Hornish said he hasn't spoken to Allmendinger.

"The way I look at it is, you know, what am I going to say to him?" Hornish said. "Obviously, I don't have any ill will or anything toward him. So it's a tough situation for everybody, because we're all trying to figure out what's going to happen and nobody knows."

For now, Hornish doesn't even know if he'll be in the Cup car at Indianapolis this weekend.

"I don't know how that all plays out," Hornish said. "They're going to go planning on having me in the car, but I don't know, that could change or anything like that. At least, if something comes back on Wednesday, they could make changes. At this point, they have to plan on me running it this week."

Hornish will run Saturday's Nationwide race at Indy either way, taking him back to the site of his biggest moment ? a victory in the 2006 Indy 500. Getting to run Sunday's Cup race would be a bonus.

"I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I really want to go run that race," Hornish said. "But the great thing about it is, I'm going to get to race there regardless."

Hornish says he has learned from his struggles in NASCAR, which left him without a full-time ride last season.

Now back running a Nationwide schedule for Penske, he hopes to use a run of consistent performances to prove to sponsors and teams that he deserves another shot in the Cup. After an eighth-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday ? he led 22 laps before getting shuffled back in the pack on pit strategy ? Hornish is fourth in the series standings and 42 points behind leader Elliott Sadler.

Hornish said not having a full-time ride in 2011 after three crash-filled and inconsistent seasons allowed him to spend more time with his family and spend more time observing other drivers.

"Sitting on the side of the pool instead of trying to figure out how keep my head above water was definitely something that allowed me to learn," Hornish said.

Running a partial Nationwide schedule for Penske in 2011, Hornish won at Phoenix to regain some confidence.

"OK, I'm not really that screwed up," he said.

Racing full-time in Nationwide this season has cost him time with his family ? he's still trying to finish off a tree house for his daughters to play in ? but he wants to do as much racing as possible to continue his development.

Ideally, he'd get to run full time in the Cup Series next season, with a large Nationwide schedule to give him more track time. But his main goal is making sure he has a full-time ride somewhere.

He believes his past experience and current success in Nationwide will be attractive to sponsors, but realizes he has to do a better job selling himself.

"It's a tough thing, because I'm not one to really talk myself up," Hornish said. "Sometimes I feel like I even need to kick myself in the butt a little bit to be like, 'All right, emphasize how good of a person you are.' I'd rather undersell and overdeliver."

17 Predictions About the Future of Internet Marketing

Post image for 17 Predictions About the Future of Internet Marketing

It?s common to hear entrepreneurs say ?execution is all that counts?? but it?s not. The premises under which your are executing count even more. I?ve been building customer relationships in a broad range of industries for the last 5 years. The quality of my execution seems consistent, yet we are wildly successful in some niches, and barely alive in others. What?s the variable? More and more, I?m looking to the quality of my initial premises.

Winning business strategies often combine proven business models with unproven or trending customer?acquisition?models. ?

In other words, take your membership training site, affiliate blog, or seminar coaching series, and add a twist by betting on a trend or emerging model to attract customers to your product.

To try and help with this type of brainstorming, I?ve listed 17 trends I?m seeing in the ?internet marketing? world. Internet marketing (also called ?make money online?) is one of the more monied niches online, and as a result it?s also one of the most innovative. Many products in niches like ?productivity? or ?passion? or ?blogging? or ?lifestyle design? and countless others are, at the core, internet marketing products as well.

  1. Your customer?s track record will become more important than yours. More than ever before, you need to have a home run answer to the question how much money do you make and what have you done??That?s just the beginning, in the coming years it?ll matter even more how your customers are fairing.
  2. Niche specific tool sets will be huge.?Suites of online tools that empower entrepreneurs will no longer require massive scale to develop, so it?ll be much easier (and more profitable) to create custom or white labeled tools to fit niche communities.
  3. Expensive ebooks are dead.?I?m sorry. Stop writing that $97 ebook right now. It?s not going to work out. Build a real product, then consider the ebook as a marketing tool, if necessary.
  4. Cultivated and proctored communities will start popping up everywhere. The readers of the TMBA often cite ?100 True Customers? as one of our most useful articles. There you?ll find?a pretty clear plan for making $40,000 a year as a content producer. I think this appraoch will get utilized a lot more in the coming years.
  5. $2,000 DVD training courses are dead.?You know what I mean? they aren?t dead, they are like ?Microsoft dead.? They?ll continue to work for people with deep pockets and for those who are in the game. If something like this is your idea of how you are going to get a foothold in a market, I?m on my way to bet against you.
  6. Podcasting is the new blogging.?Instead of starting a blog, start a podcast. Recently, Pat Flynn?reported?the the number of unique visitors to his blog was surpassed by the number of podcast enclosure downloads of his podcast. (Balla Pat!) I?m not surprised?
  7. Blogs will continue to be the most powerful brand building force new online ventures have. They?ll also continue to be the most resource intensive.?So it goes. It?s no wonder solopreneuers who use blog-marketing as a customer aquisition strategy end up just being full time blog-marketers.
  8. The market value of chops has never been higher.?Podcasts as such powerful marketing tools because even on the 3rd episode of a new podcast, you?ll have an immediate idea of how much you trust the speaker. You?ll also have a clear idea of how knowledgeable they are. If you don?t have chops, don?t worry, you?ll just have to buckle down and?do some real work.
  9. Personal freedom is slowly starting to be articulated as ?personal sovereignty.??That space will explode in the next 5 years. Get in while the gettin? is good.
  10. Your customers will need to use your product and be successful for you to have a sustainable online marketing business.?I always thought it was dip-shitty when internet marketers feigned complaint that their customers never ?implemented their product.? Those conversations will go the way of the dodo. If your customers ?don?t implement your product? you?ll ?go out of business.?
  11. In-person events and training will explode. Events provide a ton of value, it?s cheaper to move around, and your target market has a more flexible income. Easy call.
  12. The daily podcast format will raise in prominence.?James Shremko is already testing it out?(take a walk, listen to this episode, and tell me you don?t run back home looking for a notepad!).?People will write me one year from now and ??hey you were right about that daily podcast thing!?
  13. More and more, content will need to be delivered with high-level consulting.?No more $2,000 DVDs, instead I?ll get on the phone with you once a week and walk you through a deliverable. This is way better than some worksheet or video. Even Frank Kern is doing it.
  14. More 4th wave internet marketers will emerge.?They will be selling you blog networks, software suites, audiences, ad campaigns, e-commerce sites, niche websites, blogs??you name it.?
  15. University educations will start to look more like internet marketing training, and internet marketing training will start to look more like university educations.?They?ll converge and find a middle ground in the?coming?decade.
  16. If you want to start a blog about entrepreneurship or personal development and you don?t have an angle that gets everyone in the room FREAKING PUMPED and saying they?d buy products from such a publisher??don?t do it. It?s getting harder. The good news is that it?s easier to spend your energy on creating a great premise than it is publishing blog posts into the inter-nether world.
  17. Apprenticeship is back.?We aren?t all about internships anymore, but this next decade will be.

As always, I?m curious to hear your thoughts as well.

Cheers,

Dan

The Savvy Kitchen: Crockpot BBQ Root Beer Shredded Chicken ...

Today's Secret Recipe Club recipe comes from Lynne's blog, 365 Days of Baking. Lynne was on a quest to bake every day for 365 days, and on March 9th of this year she accomplished her goal. Congratulations!

As you can probably imagine, 365 days (plus) of baking leads to pages of pages of blog posts and amazing recipes. I made it through almost all of them, but instantly settled on this crockpot recipe. After coming back from our two-week honeymoon, it has taken me a while to get back into the swing of things, so an easy crockpot meal was more than up my alley.

Using chicken instead of pork was a delicious substitution and the flavors of the bbq sauce and root beer really took over. I highly recommend topping these with caramelized onions and cheese, as Lynne suggests, because it takes these sandwiches to a whole new level of delicous-ness. Since I usually top my pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw, the carmelized onions were an unexpected but very welcome sweet twist that really complimented the bbq flavor. I definitely think I'll start?using them on these types of sandwiches?more often. Enjoy!
Printable Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 3 pounds)
  • 1 tbsp. onion powder
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 16 oz. Root Beer
  • 32 oz. barbecue sauce
  • 2 cups Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • Caramelized onions (recipe below)
  • 2 tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped
In a small bowl, combine onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt and pepper. Spread seasoning mix generously on each chicken breast and place in crockpot. Pour in Root Beer. Add barbecue sauce. Cook on low for 8 hours, stirring a few times during the day.

After 8 hours, remove the chicken and shred with two forks. Return chicken to crockpot. Mix it thoroughly with the barbecue sauce, and cook for another

15-30 minutes until sauce is absorbed.

Place chicken on rolls. Top with about 1/4 cup of cheese, caramelized onions and sprinkle with fresh cilantro.

Caramelized Onions:
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 large onions, sliced and separated into rings
In a medium skillet, melt butter over medium-high. Add onions. Saute until translucent. ?Reduce heat to low and cook for up to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
